On Friday
14th July, the TEC launched its Synthesis Report in London and
Geneva simultaneously.
Jan Egeland, Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian
Affairs and the UN's Emergency Relief Coordinator made the keynote
address in Geneva, while Michael Mosselmans, Head of UK DfID's
Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Department launched the report
in London.
Each launch consisted of a 20 minute presentation by one
of the Synthesis authors, followed by a 30 minute panel discussion
and additional time for Q & A.
Panellists for Geneva included:
- Mr Tissa Abeywickrama, Chair of the Task Force of
SLRCS Tsunami Operation;
- Ms Fathimath Afiya, Executive Director
of the Care Society in the
Maldives;
- Mr Jan Egeland, UN Under-Secretary-General
for Humanitarian Affairs and Humanitarian Relief
Coordinator;
- Ms Ibu Nanie Hudwati, Head of External Services for BRR
(Indonesia's Bureau of Reconstruction and Recovery);
- Mr Ashok Saikia, Executive Director, Asian Development
Bank (ADB);
- Mr Eric Schwartz, Deputy Special Envoy, Office for the Special
Envoy for Tsunami Recovery.
In London, Michael Mosselmans' co-panellists
included:
- Mr Mihir Bhatt, Honorary Director of the All India
Disaster Mitigation Institute;
- Mr Simon Maxwell, Director of the Overseas Development
Institute;
- Ms Rachel Perera, Director, Donor, NGO and Civil
Society Coordination for the GoSL RADA (Recovery & Development
Agency in Sri Lanka);
- Ms Puteri Watson, Head of International Stakeholder
Relations, Agency for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction,
NAD-Nias.
